The New Goldrush

The New Goldrush. A Quick Guide to Startups.”

This is the official base camp for the climb up mount entrepreneur, at the top of which you will find the brilliant, the crazy, and the cocky (to quote former TechCrunch writer, Sarah Lacy; Founder of PandoDaily).

There are movements the world over, from the U.S. to China, advocating, promoting, and supporting the entrepreneurial dream. Every state and country – from California to India – wants a version of Silicon Valley to take root on their soil. Thanks to movies like The Social Network, and jaw dropping valuations of companies like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and countless others, the world of startups has had the same effect on graduates as the movie Wall Street did in the late 1980′s.

But how do you enter this increasingly elusive world of the entrepreneur? This book is here to guide you.

Blurb: “This book is for everyone. Everyone who doesn’t want to rely on the corporate ladder, or public sector for a job, everyone who is willing to take a risk, everyone who wants to make their income from their passions, their skills, and their dreams. This book is for you. The rules of the new economy are fluid, shifting, and uncertain. But already some things are becoming certainties – the old economy complete with the corporate career ladder – can’t provide the security it once did. The only way forward is to take control of our incomes, our career paths, of the new opportunities being created by the changing dynamics of the economy.

This book is about how you do that, from people who already have, and are, and will continue to do so long after you’ve finished this book and gone to bed. If you want to join them, then read on.”

There is simply not enough out there to guide students, graduates, and and those with entrepreneurial ambitions, to offer real world guidance from those who have already been there and done that. There is a lot for those going the corporate route. I have interviewed over 30 entrepreneurs, experts, academics and investors, collected research and examples from across the world, combined with my own experience of being self employed and working for startups.

I hope my book inspires, teaches and informs you about what it really means to be an entrepreneur, and I sincerely hope it gives you the courage to push forward and achieve your dreams.

The e-book will be published April 2013.
